Chattanoogan.com - Wamp Outlines Plan For Rebuilding GOP

Congressman Zach Wamp on Friday outlined his recommended "first steps for the comeback of the GOP" as House Republicans prepare for the next Congress and working with the Obama Administration.

Rep. Wamp said, "Our first steps should include laying out policies to bring about bipartisan compromises on major issues in the areas of energy, healthcare and the economy.

"As we address climate change, the critical inclusion of a bold nuclear energy plan would give the Democrats' energy plan more than a regulatory effect by stimulating our economy, addressing our carbon footprint in the most meaningful way and enhancing U.S. competitiveness at the same time.

"On healthcare, tax incentives to expand access to health insurance should be a part of any compromise solution.

"And any economic stimulus effort should include a provision to allow any investments in U.S. companies over the next 90-120 days to be free from capital gains tax if sold within the next three years.

"These policies are common sense, but support the principles of the Republican Party and small business. The American people want our new president to be successful, and we need to let him know our priorities to bring about reasonable compromises. Over the next several months however, Republicans must lay out a simple set of clear principles that we will adhere to all of the time such as low taxes, limited government, more oversight and reform of government agencies, strong and consistent national security and constitutional protection of innocent life, gun ownership, traditional marriage and a secure border."
